I also think more collaboration amongst staff (and having the time/opportunity put aside to do this) cna also help with time resources, but also help maintain standards and enthusiasm!Gina Huakauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17327157477345446890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-643037399674230870.post-65421631421164254642012-06-23T18:58:39.632-07:002012-06-23T18:58:39.632-07:00Hi Jayne, I don't think marketing is within my...Hi Jayne, I don't think marketing is within my skill set at all- lol!! However I must confess I was contracted as part of a team by the MOE to encourage more Pacific into ECE training- what we found worked was having a targetted approach. We also encouraged a number of men to enrol which was awesome. I have found that the discipline of OT is not well known amongst Pacific communities- a bit better known among some Maori whanau... Nursing was clever to use the Tongan male nurse as their poster boy- the marketing strategy appealed to parents - (not sure how successful it was with youth) but at least the parents were starting to see nursing in a professional light- and not just for the girls!! Education is already the number 1 priority for many whanau, so it's not that tertiary is not enticing- it's just making sure we have an institution that is ready to work with diverse learners. Manukau Institute of Technology is doing some WOW innovative teaching especially with their local secondary schools which is cool- merging pathways to encourage the journey in education not just about the qualifications...
Thanks, GinaGina Huakauhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17327157477345446890noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-643037399674230870.post-19691729188750164402012-06-22T22:19:40.532-07:002012-06-22T22:19:40.532-07:00Gina - your question about does this really save m...Gina - your question about does this really save money, when ALL components are considered, is a worthy one. Certainly long term, with re0use of resources, it should ease work load... but getting there, ON TOP OF ALL ELSE WE DO, not in spite of, is potentially the challenge?BHBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07541809806951528749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-643037399674230870.post-10915478282551136632012-06-16T14:44:41.058-07:002012-06-16T14:44:41.058-07:00Hi Gina, It was interesting to read your blog for...Hi Gina, It was interesting to read your blog for this week- I lack the foundation knowledge at a government level that you have but like you, concentrate on OP strategies to ensure best practice.
I wonder: if you could be the 'recruiter' for Otago Polytechnic to increase Maori/ Pacifika numbers into the programs, what would you emphasise about the learning environment to make it enticing?
